Railroading Merit Badge Day

The Boy Scout Railroading Merit Badge Day at Knott’s Berry Farm will include special presentations and activities only available to officially registered participants.  These special events fulfills the requirements for all Boy Scouts to earn the BSA Railroading Merit Badge.

The event is limited to a special 350+ tickets! The event includes all-day admission to Knott’s Berry Farm and all Railroading Merit Badge Day activities. Only a limited amount of tickets are available to the first participants (Scouts, leaders, guardians, siblings & friends) that register & pay..  Tickets are $70 per person – includes Knott’s adventure pass and a special Knott’s Lunch.

To attend, Scouts must be a registered active member of a Boy Scouts of America Troop, Team, Ship, or Crew.  Adults attending must be a BSA member, guardian or family member of an attending Scout.

Schedule: begins at promptly at 7:30 AM. Pick up your tickets at the Knott’s entrance ticket booths from 7:30 am to 8 am. Check-in no later than 8:15 AM.

The program has changed from 2016 to 2017.

From 8:15 a.m. – 1:30 PM each Scout will be assigned to a temporary Troop of 48 Scouts.  They will be guided by rotation, round robin style, through the requirements 2a, 2b, 3d, 4, 6, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d, 8-Model or 8-Railfanning8 sessions.  The first 300 scouts working on the merit badge will be able to make a model that will be provided with the help from the NMRA.ORG  Scouts will be assigned to a Patrol of 8 along with 2 Adults for the day. Each Patrol is assigned to a Troop for the day also. The Troop will travel together to each round robin sessions to complete the on-site requirements.  Please note that requirements 1a,1b,1c, 5a, 5b, & 5c are prerequisites and must be completed before arriving at Knott’s Berry Farm Railroading Merit Badge Day. If those are done and the scout fully participates in the activities and completes the Scout workbook, then they will have earned Railroading by completing the necessary requirements of the merit badge.  Everyone will be treated to a private tour of the roundhouse and also a private tour of a Parlor Car and a Business Car – vintage 1880s, which are not normally open to the public

The Railroading Merit Badge Day includes a special “youth” Lunch.. 

The day concludes about 1:30 pm.  At this point the Scouts are no longer supervised by the BSA adult volunteers.

Then all can enjoy the thrills & chills of Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Theme Park with their parents/guardians.
